The hotel management option after class 12 is one of the most sought after choices, nowadays, among students. Six IHMs found a spot among the top 10 hotel management colleges in India as per the ranking released by Outlook and seven IHMs were present among the best hotel management colleges listed in the India Today ranking.

The first IHM was established in Mumbai in 1954. As per records, today there are 71 IHMs in the country. Out of these, there are 21 Central Institutes of Hotel Management, 25 State Government Institutes of Hotel Management (SIHMs), one Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) and 24 Private Institutes of Hotel Management. Admission to these colleges is accepted on the basis of NCHM JEE, a national level entrance test for aspiring candidates in hotel management.

Institute of Hotel Management: Eligibility Criteria

In order to get admission into IHMs candidates must fulfil some set of eligibility criteria set by the central, state and private institutes.

• A candidate must be a citizen of India

• A candidate must have passed class 10+2 with at least 50% marks in aggregate from a recognised board or equivalent

• A candidate must have cleared NCHM JEE 2021 with a good score as per the needs of the college.

IHMs Courses: Admission

Admission to these UG and PG courses in IHMs is offered through NCHM JEE which has different syllabus for appearing in exams at both levels. Admission in Diploma and Craftsmanship courses offered at IHMs is strictly on the basis of an aspirant’s merit in Class 12th wherein he/she has studied English as one of the subjects. The application form for IHM admissions in Diploma and Craftsmanship courses is released on the website of the respective college in the month of May and the course session starts in the month of July-August, every year. Admission in PG diploma courses offered at IHMs is on the basis of a candidate’s merit in graduation. NCHM JEE exam is conducted as a computer-based test for MSc in Hospitality Administration course.
