The hospitality sector is booming. During the last few years many international players like Accor, Hilton, Four Seasons have come to India where hotel management graduates would be needed in large numbers, says an expert.
Most students go for a three-year programme in hospitality. During the first year, the students have to learn the basics related to the hospitality industry. The common subjects for all are Front office, Housekeeping, and Food & Beverages Production/ Services. “Apart from how to serve, a hotel management student gets to learn minute details such as measurement of tea cup, plate and cutlery etc. This is what makes him/her different from a non-trained professional,” shares another expert. During the second year, students go for an industrial training of 20 weeks and learns hands-on. In last year, the students study about finance, business environment, strategic management and other related subjects.
