What is BHM- Course Objective
Bachelor in Hotel Management( BHM) is an undergraduate level Bachelor’s degree course.

BHM Course Duration
BHM degree has four academic years in most of the colleges. But in some colleges and universities the duration of BHM course is three years. Each academic year comprises two semesters. Each semester comprises 16 to 20 weeks of class/lab work. The students are required to undergo industrial exposure as the course is professional in nature. The industrial training usually takes place in the fifth or sixth semester of the programme. The duration of the training may vary from six months to nine months. The course curriculum is focussed in ensuring that a candidate gains adequate managerial and hospitality industry skills to satiate the ever-burgeoning requirements of tourism and hospitality business.
BHM Course Eligibility
The candidates must have completed their 10+2 or equivalent exam in any stream at the school level from the recognized board.
It is mandatory to have passed in English which is a core subject of study in class 10+2.
Aspirants have to undertake either National Council of hotel management and Catering Technology Joint Entrance Exam( NCHM JEE) or other entrance exams conducted by the Universities/colleges for the admission procedure. Depending on the cutoff of various colleges admission is granted to students. There are also some top hotel management entrance exams in India which candidates can opt for to take admission to the course.

Mainly there are four core subjects in the curriculum.These subjects are – Food & Beverage Service, Food & Beverage Production, Housekeeping and Front Office. Also there are several non-core subjects which are equally important for the students as they help them to have an in-depth understanding about the core subjects. The brief information about some of these subjects is given below:
Food and Beverage Service – The course is of four years duration and deals with the service of food and beverage. In the first two years, candidates learn about the operational aspects and in the last two years , it is all about the food and beverage service management. The subject description starts with the introduction of the food and beverage service industry, organisational hierarchy, service equipment, attributes of food and beverage personnel, menu planning, types of service and menus, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, in-room dining, etc. In the third and fourth year the focus for management study is on bar management, menu engineering, facility planning, trend and new concepts, etc. Practical training also goes simultaneously. In the last semester, the subject is optional and is recommended highly only for those who are willing to make their career as a connoisseur, server, barman, etc.
Food and Beverage Production – This subject deals with the basics of food preparation. The theory and practical are taught side by side in all the four years of the course. In the first semester, topics such as Methods of Cooking, Food Commodities, Kitchen Equipment, Cooking Fuels, Food Ethics, etc are imparted to the students. The practical classes are of seven to ten weeks. In practical classes, students learn to cook Indian cuisine foods – Punjabi, Mughlai, Awadhi, etc. The third semester introduces the students to the principles of food standards and menu planning, French, Italian, Mexican and Spanish cuisines. By the time the students step into the fourth semester, they learn the management aspects of food preparation. They are introduced to kitchen organizations. In practice, they are taught to prepare oriental dishes.
In the third year, it is mandatory for students to take industrial training in a five star hotel. In their fourth year, subjects dealing with food and beverage management are introduced. The subject contents deal with kitchen planning, storage of food material, purchasing, financial management in kitchens and food production systems and food presentation.
Front Office- This is a part of accommodation management and presents the front house department of the hotel along with its key operations and management aspects. It is not as vast as other core subjects, hence it is taught only in the first two years. The subject introduces the front office department, front office products and bell desk operations, guest cycle and hotel organization. In the second year, the subject deals with the management part of the front office. Topics include Front Desk Operations, Reservations Management, Registration Management,, Telephone Operations, Front Office Accounting and Cash Handling. Training classes go along with the theory.. In their last semester, just like other subjects, it also becomes optional and is recommended only for those who are willing to pursue their career as receptionist, bell boys, concierge, etc.
Housekeeping- This subject is also a part of the accommodation management and deals with the housekeeping services departments. The first year, students are taught how to deal with the operational side of the department. Topics such as Housekeeping Control Desk, Types of Guest Rooms, Departmental Coordination and Functions,Linen, Uniform and Tailor Rooms, etc are taught. The second year deals with the management of the department. Topics on Interior Decorations, Furniture and Equipment, Wall Coverings, Furnishes, etc are taught in the second year. Practical classes also take place along with the theory. In the first year, the students learn the art of bed making, brass polishing, forms and formats relating to the department and personal hygiene. In the second year, they learn about cleaning floors and walls, colour schemes, sewing, etc. In their last semester, the subject becomes optional and is recommended only for those who are willing to pursue their career as a housekeeper, tailor, laundry man, linen in-charge, etc.
After successful completion of the undergraduate course, one has ample opportunities and the degree additionally adds the weight to the resume.

when is the NCHM JEE exam date for 2020 ?
NTA has recently announced the new exam date for NCHMCT JEE 2020 . The exam will now be conducted on June 22 between 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Earlier the exam was scheduled to be conducted on April 25, 2020. Also NTA has announced that candidates can download NCHMCT JEE admit card 15 days prior to the commencement of exam.
